Oil on canvas, signed William Thornley of Fisherman at low tide. Restored, period frame bears supplier’s label: Nelson DeClark of New York City. British, born in 1857, Thornley was a painter in oil of marine and coastal scenes. He exhibited at major London Galleries from 1883. His earlier works are signed “Thornberry” or “Thornbury” and later “Thornley”. He lived in Rochester in Kent, and painted on both the East and South coasts of England.
