Achille Varin was born in Paris in 1863, and died in Nemours in 1942. He was a student of both Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. He exhibited his painting Rebecca at the Fountain at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1896, which earned him an award that year, and became a life member of the Society of French artists in 1890.
