Rosewood inlaid with mother of pearl, brass and ivory. The sloping front opens to reveal the original velvet writing surface which lifts to show paper storage. The top section reveals a pen tray, ink bottle and sand shaker, and has a working lock and key. An outstanding example, and in very good condition with a minor amount of restoration to a small area of the inlay. France, c.1850
