A Danish sterling silver carving set by Georg Jensen, Denmark, Blossom Pattern #84. Sterling silver handles, stainless steel blade and tines. The fork handle marks tell that it was made about 1925. The carving knife measures 13.75" long, the fork, 10-5/8" long.
Designed in 1905 by Georg Jensen, the delicate Blossom bud was originally created for his legendary teapot. Not until 1919 did he create the entire cutlery range which is the epitome of the silversmith’s intense and personal interpretation of the Art Nouveau style. The Blossom pattern is the result of Georg Jensen’s quest to unite art and craft through the organic forms of nature. The stem of the flower which winds itself upwards around the handle emerging as a flower bud on the verge of bursting open illustrates Georg Jensen’s deep inspiration from nature.
